Where do we get our animals?
- Abandoned and forgotten. People who move and leave the animals behind.
- Elderly folk who cannot care for their pet anymore, or have been moved into convalescent care.
- Death of a pet owner.
- Pet owner becomes homeless.
- From culverts, under houses and trailers, junk cars.
- From feral mothers. We trap the mother and litter and keep them together until kittens are weaned and then spay and release her.
- From the Plumas County Animal Shelter.
Special ways Friends helps the community:
- Offer vouchers to defray the cost of spay/neuter when we can.
- Offer a Crisis Food Program which gives free food twice in a year (when available) to those who need help feeding their pets..
- Friends takes in pregnant females and allows them to give birth in a safe and warm facility.
- Loan out trapping cages so people can manage feral cat populations in their neighborhoods.
What makes our rescue unique?
- Whenever possible animals are housed together for socialization and comfort.
- Our kitten playroom has an activity gym and several window cat patios where the animals can sit in the sun and take in the activity of the outdoors.
- All enclosures have cat hammocks so the animals can lounge and feel safe.
- We try to match special needs animals with the special needs of people.
- Friends works with Social Services and gives community service opportunities so people can get required hours of work.
